Chemistry on Camera

21st October 2013

If you can hear those proverbial wedding bells, you’re probably Pinteresting and Instagramming your heart out trying to find some urgent wedding photo inspiration. Romance is key, but it’s hard to know how to spice things up when the world of online photo sharing is so desperately full of clichés and crippling insincerity. But there are a few ways to really capture your love story on camera in a way that is legitimately lovely and personal to the two of you. You’ve got the chemistry, we’ve got the camera – let’s get to work.

There is a Light that Never Goes Out

Atmosphere is all in the lighting, and this holds true for capturing the romance on camera.  Some of the most gorgeous wedding shots in history are credited to the amazing use of light – and there are so many delightfully offbeat options available. Try fairy lights, Chinese lanterns or – our personal favourite – sparklers. There’s something very symbolic in these light-centric images and they invariably emanate that magic and chemistry you’re looking for.

Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)

The beauty of a wedding is the promise of eternal, unadulterated happiness – and there’s no reason your wedding photos shouldn’t reflect this same glorious optimism. Cheeky shots like this are utterly achievable, as this is the kind of joy and contentment you just can’t fake. Essentially what we’re asking you is to be visibly happy on your wedding day – this shouldn’t be too difficult. Just make sure those lovely smiles are caught on camera.

Body Language

The most effective indicator of chemistry is some cheeky physical contact. We’re sure it won’t be too much of a burden to wrap your hands around each other for the sake of some stunning wedding photography. Hand-holding is a failsafe and you really can’t beat a nice cuddle – we’d also suggest a couple of prolonged eye contact shots. Nothing says chemistry like a picture which tells us you’d never want to be looking anywhere else.

Somewhere Only We Know

A beautiful thing about wedding photography is the potential to capture romantic intimacy in a truly authentic way. With other aspects like lighting and setting working in your favour, this is all too easy. Steal a private moment together – alone in a garden or meadow, or together under her wedding veil – and forget about that photographer. This is about the two of you, so get a little intimate and the results will manifest beautifully in your wedding pictures.

P.S. I Love You

At Clear Photographic, we’re more than partial to a cutesy gimmick every once in a while. And with wedding photography, there are an abundance to choose from! Our personal favourite is wedding signs – so turn your hand to some DIY and make sure the two of you have a pair of custom signs printed/drawn/written on chalkboard. The rest is easy enough. Our top picks include ‘His’ (for her) & ‘Hers’ (for him), ‘I do’ & ‘I do too’, and – can’t beat the classics – the good old ‘Mr’ and Mrs’. While these signs may not say much, they actually say a whole lot. You guys are a package deal now – and everyone should know it.

Don’t forget to smile!
